The Olympians - Episode 14: Hestia

Okay, guys. You might wonder why there are fourteen episodes in this category instead of twelve. I can explain. Well, first of all, Hades isn't actually an olympian, but since he is the sibling of five other olympians, we can put him in this category. Secondly, Hestia, the topic of this episode, actually gave Dionysus her throne. So she is a former olympian. Pretty cool, uh? So let's start.

Charles the Great here, presenting you, the goddess of the hearth, home, architecture, domesticity, family, and the state. She is one of the only three virgin goddesses, who are never married. The other ones are Athena and Artemis. (Although in Rick Riordan's books, Athena had some children with mortals.) Anyhoo, Hestia is the sister of Hera, Poseidon, Zeus, Demeter, and Hades. She was the first to be swallowed by Kronos, their father. So she is the eldest of the six. After Zeus forced his father to disgorge his children, Hestia was the last to be yielded up, making her both the oldest and the youngest daughter.

In Percy Jackson series and also Heroes of Olympus and Trials of Apollo, Hestia's hearth is always in the center of the cabins. If you don't know what the cabins are, they are basically shelters that represents different gods and their children, or demigod children, lives in them. As the goddess of the hearth she personified the fire burning in the hearth of every home in Greece. They worshipped Hestia even though she isn't an olympian anymore.

Although she isn't overly significant in Greek Mythology, many poets such as Hesiod and Ovid wrote poems about her. She is throughout a very helpful and elegant goddess. She is my favorite goddess in greek mythology. Another reason that she is my favorite goddess is because sometimes she represents fire too. Both Hephaestus and Hestia aren't in the-most-famous-gods list, and they both represents fire. This is the last episode of this category. You should move on to read about the Titans. There are already three episodes in it. Have a cozy day, fellas!
