The Olympians - Episode 2: Poseidon

Poseidon (Roman Form: Neptune) is the ruler of the seas and the earth-shaker. People believe that he caused all of the earthquakes. He is the second oldest of the Big Three (Oldest~Youngest: Hades, Poseidon, and Zeus). He was swallowed by his father, titan Kronos with his four siblings. After Zeus tricked Kronos into drinking the potion, he and his brothers and sisters were released. They also freed the Cyclops (one-eyed creatures that were trapped by Kronos in the past.) the Cyclops made Zeus and his two brothers very powerful weapons. They gave Zeus a lightning bolt, Poseidon a trident, and Hades an invisible helmet. Then they killed their father one by one, and trapped Kronos into Tartarus (a part in the Underworld, also Gaia's husband).

He is the father of some minor gods and goddesses, like Triton and Kymopoleia. Triton and Kymopoleia are have different mothers and same fathers (Poseidon, duh). he controlled the seas and many sea creatures. Oceanus was the old sea god (actually titan), but Poseidon won over his place.

One time, the king of Athens (that time it wasn't called that) invited Poseidon and Athena to a battle of giving the city a present. Whoever wins got to rule this city and have the citizens pray them forever. Poseidon first gave the people water. But very soon, they realized it is salty. Then Athena gave them a huge olive tree to support the whole city with olives and luck from Athena. They also names the city after Athena. The citizens were really thankful and Poseidon became the sour loser (No offense, Lord Poseidon. Sometimes I have that feeling too).

Poseidon is my third favorite olympian god. My first is Hephaestus (which will be the topic of Episode 4), second is Hermes, and then it is Poseidon. He can be emotional like his younger brother, Zeus. But he can also be very nice if the sailers pray for a safe journey across the sea. Most of the time, he will make sure the sailers will make safely oversea. Next episode, Hades, God of the Underworld and the Dead. Sea (see) you next time!
